A first look at Chicago's newest fusion band, Mateo Suarez & his band The Public Ear, featuring the psychedelic blues song "Paraphernalia Blues", which features a long cast of players who play a part in an exhilarating jam that draws in any listener.
It's backed with "Life With The Hogs", featuring the amazing saxophonist and frequent collaborator of Mateo, Gabriel Medina, who plays a lengthy and cool solo through bongos and a latin groove.

It is usually unusual for a band to have a radio session before they have played any real shows. Still, in Mateo Suarez's case, it was necessary to capture the "real sound" of his new Public Ear, which features an octet (two drummers, two guitarists, two background singers, a bassist and a keyboardist). This is the band's only recording with both drummers, as one would depart in January. The songs here are fully realized- with the spirit of improvisation heavy in every musician playing that evening. Recorded for their college, Columbia's WCRX FM "Sessions at 33" series, showcases some of what is to come in the band's upcoming shows around Chicago in 2025. May the octet live forever in this recording.
