mateo suarez and the public ear is a chicago based jazz-fusion project headed by mateo suarez and consists of members that come all backgrounds and walks of life. the group formed in 2024, though most of the musicians have played together far longer. they have played established venues such as reggies music joint, cobra lounge, schubas tavern, and ramova, putting on captivating live shows with superb musicianship from the musicians and sound painting in their experimentive improvisations, you should go and see them if you are a fan of any kind of music, and if you are a talent buyer or someone who wants something new in their lives, you should very much consider booking them, or listen to the LP's available for streaming. do you like jazz? or perhaps rock & blues, maybe even salsa, world & classical music? this is music taliored for you! relevant contact information and links to music, social media and other wonders are also all in this page.

mateo suarez: founding member, multi-instrumentalist, producer as well as the composer & arranger of all original works currently performed live, as well as the engineer of all released albums. he currently attends columbia college for audio engineering and business in chicago, illnois. on stage, he can be seen playing guitar & singing.
sky anne watson: backing and occasionally lead vocal originally hailing from new york city. she is also a violinist and can occasionally be seen playing it on stage. she also attends columbia college as a vocal major. she is also working on a solo career.
noah rosenberg: multi-instrumentalist & musical director for the public ear. a freakishly talented guitarist who helps organize the group's musical dynamic and discipline. he is seen playing guitar on stage, and currently attends oakton college in skokie, illinois.
hayes hagedorn: multi-faceted musician who plays electric and upright bass. one of the most dynamic bassists, she is also a very talented jungle artist and dj in her own right, going under the name "silver october", releasing multiple projects the past five years. you can listen to her music by clicking here. she attends sae institute in chicago, illinois for audio engineering.
josie yutzy: drummer and an original member of the musicians that became the public ear, playing with mateo suarez for over half a decade- a consistent and dynamic drummer who can be likened to nick mason meets tony williams. she is always behind the drum kit. she graduated from oprf in 2024.
kieran hogan: another original member of the public ear, playing with mateo and josie since 2021, influenced by grunge, jazz and blues, he can be seen playing guitar and occasionally percussion along with sydney. he also graduated from oprf in 2024.
henry lloyd: multi-instrumentalist who plays woodwinds. originally playing saxophone, he now plays clarinet alongside it as well as flute. he currently attends northern illinois university for clarinet performance in dekalb, illinois. he has performed with multiple jazz ensembles over the years.
sydney colligan: percussionist & second drummer, and one of the latest additions of the group. they have performed with groups around the chicagoland area, and specializes in percussion instruments, utilizing rain sticks, gongs, bongos, congas, cymbals and glockenspiel at times. when not performing on percussion, they can be found behind a second kit, adding polyrhythms and counterbeats to josies drumming on improv-pieces or longer suites. they graduated in 2024 from oprf.
tyler shaver: the latest addition to the group, is an experimentalist composer and pianist who has played festivals in switzerland, won awards from youngarts, ilmea, and has a solo career of experimental and avant-garde compositions, written for penn state & nu deco ensemble, and is available to all. to listen, click here. he currently attends northwestern university in evanston, illinois, studying philosophy alongside composition.
